“I have been lucky enough to be awarded the Moffat scholarship for 2005/2006. This has been a wonderful opportunity and I am very grateful for being allowed this experience. It has given me more time to study for my coursework and exams throughout the year. Without the scholarship I think I would have found 3rd year studies extremely difficult because of the volume of work that is involved. The scholarship has also been a real motivator in wanting to achieve high grades throughout the year and without the scholarship I feel that my results would not have been at the level that I have achieved now. The money has allowed me to buy the relevant textbooks and materials that I need for my course. The scholarship has also allowed me to work at the Moffat Centre which I think is a great opportunity, it has allowed me to see more into the tourism sector and understand the area in more detail. It has also given me great opportunities such as meeting the Chief Executive of VisitScotland. I am sure that the experiences that I have had through the scholarships will be of great value to me in the future and I now look forward to pursuing a careering the tourism and travel sector when I graduate from university.” Caroline obtained her degree in 2006
“I applied for the first time at the Moffat Scholarship for the academic year 2005/6 and I was privileged to have been awarded it. It has given me the opportunity to strongly reduce the amount of hours required to support myself through paid employment during my fourth and final year at the university. This has been a significant factor that has given me the possibility to increase the hours to dedicate to my studies. Currently I am working towards the achievement of a 2:1 degree, which given the fact that English is not my first language, can be considered a challenge. The possibility of this result is thanks to the Moffat scholarship. The Moffat Scholarship will also give me the opportunity to settle my student debts and enhance my career at a managerial level. I am very grateful for the Moffat scholarship, and without it I do not feel that I would have done as well as I have. Roberto achieved a 2:1 in 2006
In commencing fourth year I was successfully awarded a Moffat scholarship in 2005/6. Reflecting on the recent completion of fourth year, it has certainly proved to be challenging and stimulating in executing several assignments simultaneously, requiring further independent study. Thus, the Moffat scholarship has provided me with the opportunity to fully concentrate in fulfilling my studies, without having to undertake a part time job. I would strongly recommend other travel and tourism students apply for the Moffat scholarship. Not only does it provide you with the opportunity to concentrate on your studies, but the placement in the Moffat Centre also provides you with valuable work experience, allowing you to further broaden your skills and knowledge of the travel and tourism industry.
