Icons Branding

As part of the European Funding initiative ‘Equal Scotland’, under Theme C ICONS, Napier University have led a group of partners across Scotland to develop 5 project ideas which will stimulate business creation in areas of disadvantage.
The main objectives of the Icons Branding project are to:

  • target new businesses of no more than 2 years old which are located within two rural areas of high unemployment and socio-economic deprivation i.e. South Lanarkshire and East Lothian.
  • assess if appropriate local/national icons can be used effectively in the business development process.

Project task aims include:

  • the preparation of a suitable methodology to research the potential use of iconic branding in the business development process
  • to recommend whether or not unique icons representing both areas can be used to increase entrepreneurship and develop and market businesses to the local and wider community
  • to identify and target for development 10 appropriate new businesses  within both council areas
  • to assess existing performance and set ‘individual business’ indicators of assessment to facilitate measurable evaluation
  • to deliver workshops and training to these new businesses and monitor their impact
  • undertake, as a foundation for external evaluation,  a project assessment in consultation with project partners and participating businesses.
