5th International Forum on Tourism Statistics
In June 2000 the Moffat Centre hosted 5th International Forum on Tourism Statistics. The Forum is supported by Eurostat, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the UK Government Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the Scottish Tourist Board (STB) and the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley Visitor and Convention Bureau.
The forum discussed major technical factors in the establishment of harmonised tourism statistics in an environment that strengthens co-operation between governments, the private sector, researchers, academics and international organisations. The themes for the year 2000 were also clearly directed at users' needs. Identified contributors and users of tourism data include financial institutions, governments, national and international tourism and development agencies and representatives of the international tourism industry.
The forum has become a regular diary date for the exchange of views and experiences on developments in tourism statistics, both within the European Union and other OECD countries and in non-member countries.
