EIGHT travel and tourism students have received prestigious Moffat Centre scholarships to help further their studies.
The names of the 2009 Moffat Scholars were revealed at the annual Moffat Lecture and Awards.
More than £500,000 worth of scholarships have been awarded to students over the last 10 years thanks to the generous backing of The Moffat Charitable Trust.
This year's keynote speaker was Malcolm Hart, CEO of Aurigny Airlines and a former GCU student, who delivered an entertaining lecture about his personal experiences in the airline industry.
The BA Business Studies graduate spoke of the challenges of building and growing an airline, especially in the current challenging times. Professor John Lennon, Moffat Chair in Travel and Tourism, also gave an overview of the Moffat Centre activities during the past year.
Afterwards, Dr Jamie Moffat, whose family founded the Moffat Charitable Trust, confirmed their commitment to fund both the Moffat Centre and the Scholarships for a further five years, before presenting certificates and cheques to the 2009 Moffat Scholars - Charlotte Booth, Andrew Campbell, Izabela Chodakowska, Amy Corcoran, Leah Foster, Ashley McClatchey, Gemma Porter, and Dorothee Weber.
All this year’s scholars are CBS students studying Travel, Tourism and Events Management.
