Staff profiles
As the Moffat Chair in Travel and Tourism Business Development, Professor John Lennon leads the UK’s largest University based consultancy and research centres. It is based in Glasgow Caledonian University and was initially endowed by the Moffat family (AT Mays Travel Agency). The Moffat Centre is responsible for the production of national and international consumer and market research and business development consultancy and with its profits it funds scholarships for students wishing to study Travel and Tourism (for further details see www.moffatcentre.com).
John has undertaken tourism and travel projects in Fiji, USA, Canada, Egypt, Nepal, Romania, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Singapore, Ireland, Russia and the UK. John is the author of seven books and over 100 articles and numerous reports on the travel and tourism industry. John has undertaken over 300 projects on behalf off the Moffat Centre in 27 nations.
John is a specialist policy advisor to VisitScotland, and is a Board Member of the Canadian Tourism Commission European Group, the Scottish Tourism Forum, Springboard Scotland and was appointed by the Scottish First Minister to the statutory Monitoring Committee of Strathclyde European Partnership.

Our Staff
Dr Margaret Graham is Head of Research at the Moffat Centre and has full responsibility for all research projects. Her PHD is in ‘the impact of social change on the roles and management of cultural heritage volunteers’. She provides major research input to projects and leads a team of researchers who undertake a range of cultural heritage related projects. The team consists of a survey research manager and other research staff all with specific tourism related expertise. It is Margaret’s responsibility to manage projects and ensure quality standards are maintained to include the effective delivery of projects within the timescale agreed with the client.
Margaret has significant experience working on cultural heritage related projects and has worked in the Moffat Centre since 1999. Her main areas of expertise include: Cultural heritage tourism and management of operations; fundraising and sponsorship for cultural activities; increasing educational opportunities and access to cultural heritage for communities; performance management of volunteers and evaluating voluntary input to cultural activities and attractions. Volunteering is a hidden form of recreational learning which Margaret has studied and has achieved international recognition in publication. Tony Harrison is Business Development Consultant at the Moffat Centre and has been involved in a range of commercial projects including: reviewing revenue generation within visitor attractions, undertaking feasibility analysis and economic impact studies. He is a DTI accredited business advisor on the UK-wide ‘Profit Through Productivity’ programme. Tony has undertaken a range of studies in the area of tourism development and tourism strategic planning including an evaluation of the redevelopment plans for Duthie Park Winter Gardens (Aberdeen), feasibility study for the recently opened Tullibardine Distillery and Visitor Centre (Blackford, Perthshire), as well working with a range of businesses on areas such a catering development, marketing and skills training.
Claire Bereziat is the commercial research manager in the Moffat Centre and provides full data management, analysis and research on a variety of projects. She has extensive experience of data collation and has undertaken national visitor attraction statistical compilation and reportage for Scotland, Wales and England. Her knowledge of the visitor attraction sector has led to her involvement in a variety of development projects focussing on interpretation, catering and retail. She has undertaken management of the annual economic impact analysis of the burns festival and the 2004 Glasgow art fair. Claire is also an experienced qualitative researcher: she provides background information for a number of projects as well as investigating best practice examples and competitor practices. Her language skills come in handy to check French or Spanish speaking literature. She was also involved in the elaboration of VisitScotland scanning mechanisms for developing Scottish tourism scenarios. She has an MSc in ecotourism and is a member of the association for heritage interpretation and tourism concern.
Marina Martinolli Marina Martinolli manages the Scottish Visitor Attraction Monitor and Barometer and has been involved in the organization of a range of tourism development projects including HIE Canadian Rockies Learning Journey undertaken with Highlands and Islands small tourism businesses; Scottish Enterprise Tourism Network West series of tourism events and co-ordination of the 5th International Forum on Tourism Statistics. Marina has a background as an event organiser within the Scottish Tourism Industry.
Craig Wight is a Business Development Consultant within the team and has been involved in a range of consultancy projects. He is Project Officer for the European funded Icons Branding initiative and has undertaken socio-economic impact analyses of events such as the Burns and A’ That Festivals 2004-07 and the Wilberforce 2007 festival in Hull, East Yorkshire. Craig has been involved on a variety of business development projects including the Scottish Borders Tourism Action Plan, Review of South Lanarkshire Catering Operations, Real Art Week visitor survey, Scottish Enterprise Tayside Food Study and St Andrews World Class Vision. Craig has had academic research published in the fields of visitor attractions, museum interpretation, ‘dissonant heritage’ in nation building and culinary tourism.
Emma Docherty is the Centre Administrator and the most recent addition to the Moffat Centre. Emma has an honours degree as well as an MSc in Ecotourism and has considerable experience of administrative support and client service. She is the first point of contact for clients, the student liaison contact for all queries relating to scholarships and provides admin support for the formatting of client reports.
